Liebe Freunde, K�nig Gyanendra hat am heutigen Vormittag einen neuen Premierminister, Lokendra Bahadur Chand - dies war der letzte Premierminister des 1990 zu Ende gegangenen Panchayat Systems -, mit 9-k�pfigem Ministerkabinett benannt. Es sind keine Minister der Hauptparteien dabei, das Kabinett wird jedoch erweitert und dann kommen auch andere Parteien zum Zuge. Diese Regierung soll das Land nun in ruhigeres Fahrwasser f�hren, d.h. eine Atmosph�re f�r Frieden schaffen, die Korruption bek�mpfen und baldm�glichst Neuwahlen anberaumen. KOL Report KATHMANDU, Oct 11 � Moments after Lokendra Bahadur Chand was declared Prime Minister of Nepal by King Gyanendra, he has said his first priority would to establish peace in the country and prepare grounds of the elections. Speaking to journalists at his residence at Lokanthali Friday afternoon, prime minister in waiting Chand said it was his utmost priority to establish peace and security in the country and hold elections as soon as possible. Asked whether his government would hold talks with the Maoists, Chand said he was open to the idea but did not elaborate. Chand also told journalists that his cabinet would be expanded from the present nine members to include members from other political parties. He is due to be sworn in at around 5:30 p.m. NST. (rk) Nine member cabinet announced KOL Report KATHMANDU, Oct 11 � King Gyanendra has announced a nine-member cabinet that includes a medical doctor and a social worker among others. The cabinet however, does not include members from the main political parties such as the Nepali Congress and the CPN-UML. According to the list issued by the Royal Palace Friday, Lokendra Bahadur Chand has been named the Prime Minister. He has also been given the responsibilities of 12 ministries including the Defence Ministry and Civil Aviation. Sadbhavana Party leader Badri Prasad Mandal has been named the Deputy Prime Minister. Other cabinet members include former vice-chairman of National Planning Commission Badri Shrestha, Former Foreign Secretary and Nepal�s representative to the United Nations Narendra Bikram Shah, Former Zonal Administrator Dharma Bahadur Thapa, ethnic leader Gore Bahadur Khapangi, neurosurgeon Dr. Upendra Devkota. Social worker Anuradha Koirala and Gopal Dahit have been named Assistant Ministers. The Royal Palace Communiqu� also said that King Gyanendra had instructed the cabinet to create condusive atmosphere in the country through national consensus and eradicate the prevailing atmosphere of violence. The King also gave responsibility to the council of ministers to conduct free and fair elections as soon as possible, effectively implement programmes against corruptions at all levels, implement good governance and further strengthen existing relations with friendly countries with whom Nepal has diplomatic relations with. King Gyanendra also expressed the hope that the new council of Ministers would recieve cooperation from all section of the society. (rk) List of council of Ministers Prime Minister Chand is new PM KOL Report (Posted at 2:45 p.m.) KATHMANDU, Oct 11 �His Majesty King Gyanendra is most likely to appoint Lokendra Bahadur Chand as the new prime minister of Nepal Friday afternoon following sacking of PM Sher Bahadur Deuba terming the latter as incompetent for conducting the general elections last week. Our highly placed sources said that Chand is scheduled to officially take the oath of office at Narayanhity Royal Palace this evening. A new cabinet comprising around a dozen members is also to be formed by this evening after the announcement of the new PM. Among the key names featured in the new cabinet, as our sources mentioned, include Bir Bahadur Shahi as Interior Minister and Ambika Shrestha as Tourism Minister. Chand was the last PM of the 30-year autocratic Panchayati regime that was overthrown following a prolonged People�s Movement in 1990.
