A landslide in the Bamti Bhandar village development committee of Ramechhap district on Wednesday morning left at least 65 people dead, said Trilok Shrestha, chief district officer (CDO) of Ramecchap.
Shreshta said that at least 30 to 40 houses must have been swept away by the landslide.
"We have not been able to obtain accurate information since Thapra village is a remote area with no communication and transport facilities," he said.
He said that the affected area is around 110 km from the district administration office.
Rescue teams comprising of the police and the army have left from Jiri to the affected areas for rescue operation, he said. However, rescue team and relief materials from Kathmandu has not arrived on helicopter yet owing to bad weather, he added.
