KATHMANDU, May 17 - British and French ambassadors Monday said that Nepal was a safe and peaceful destination for travellers. There isnt any kind of security problem along the trail, British Envoy Keith Bloomfield said of his trip to Manang. Bloomfield, who was accompanied by his wife and several colleagues during the trek along two villages, Nar and Phoo in Manang, from April 8-17, said that he was fascinated by the unbeatable combination of the landscapes and the mountains. Tourists have nothing to fear in those areas, he said. French ambassador, Michel Jolivet, who had been to the Khumbu region from April 15-24, had a similar experience. Jolivet said that he did not face any kind of security threats during his trip. He advised tourists to travel in company of trekking agencies and experienced guides. On being asked if he encountered Maoists during the trek, the French envoy light-heartedly said, No Maoists and no Yeti. Both the diplomats also invited one and all to visit Nepal without any second thoughts and experience her unique natural beauty. Of recently, tourists arrival in the country has slumped sharply after the state of emergency was declared on Feb. 1. Between February and April the tourist arrival had plunged by 40 percent as compared to the same period last year. (dds)
