habe gerade folgende Nachricht von unserem Buero in Kathmandu erhalten Klaus Toepfer Govt introduces TRC The budget for the fiscal year 2006/07 has accorded high priority to the promotion of the tourism industry. The government has decided to implement the much-awaited Trekking Registration Certificate (TRC) through Trekking Agents Association of Nepal (TAAN). TAAN had been demanding for the implementation of TRC to check illegal operations in the trekking industry. Apart from this, the government has decided to waive off additional royalties levied on chartered flights. Similarly, 10 percent fee in international flights has been reduced in order to encourage more foreign airlines to fly in Nepal. The provision of rewarding best five tour operators has also been introduced in the new budget. Likewise, the government will soon sign a new air services agreement with India to bring in more tourists from and via India. With a total budget outlay of Rs. 143.9 billion, the government has allocated funds for various sectors such as education, health, women, children and rural infrastructure development. Finance Minister Dr. Ram Sharan Mahat presented at the House of Representatives on July 12, 2006.
Maoist leaders to help promote tourism
At a time when the entire tourism industry was concerned about the future move of the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist), the party�s supreme leader Mr. Prachand (Pushpa Kamal Dahal) and other senior leaders expressed their commitment to supporting tourism. Speaking at an interaction programme organized by Hotel Association Nepal (HAN) in Kathmandu on July 10, 2006, Mr. Prachand underlined the need of promoting tourism to give a boost to the country�s economy. �The tourism industry should be promoted to raise the living standard of the people,� he said. Similarly, politburo member and leader of the CPN (Maoist) Dr. Babu Ram Bhattarai said that his party does not have any policy of harming tourists and hindering tourism related activities. Dr. Bhattarai also reminded the fact that not a single tourist was physically harmed even during the strikes, war or Nepal bandh. �We are firm on our policy to promote tourism as a vital tool for a rapid economic development. Our party will continue to promote tourism as a top priority sector for overall economic development and now also, we are equally committed to protecting this industry,� he vowed.
Nepal promoted in Bangkok
According to MoCTCA, more than 90 tour operators, representatives of media and friends of Nepal attended the press conference-cum-promotional event. The Nepalese delegation led by Secretary at MoCTCA Mr. Govind Prasad Pandey disseminated the latest tourism information and situation updates of the country. On the occasion, Nepal's new tourism brand "Naturally Nepal - Once is not Enough" was also unveiled. Meanwhile, a special presentation on Nepal�s Buddhist circuits was made. Shedding light on the new development in Nepal, Mr. Pandey said that peace had now prevailed. He also explained the importance Lumbini, the birth place of Lord Buddha, as a pilgrimage destination for Thai visitors. Charge �de Affaires at the Nepalese Embassy in Bangkok, Mr. Arjun Prasad. Mainali the embassy was ready to provide all necessary information about Nepal as a destination and extend possible cooperation to the Thai businessmen and tourists.
Mr. Binay Prakash Shrestha, Director Nepal Tourism Board said that Nepal Tourism Board had placed special focus on regional markets like Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia. A new CD Rom showing varied attractions of Nepal was also presented at the function.
Sakya honoured with Tourism Heritage-2063
Veteran tourism entrepreneur Mr. Karna Sakya has been honoured with �Tourism Heritage-2063� for his invaluable contribution to the development of Nepal�s tourism industry. Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Mr. Pradeep Kumar Gyawali felicitated Mr. Sakya, who is also a renowned environmentalist, amidst a programme organized jointly by Souvenir Nepal and Tourist Guide Association of Nepal (TURGAN) in Kathmandu on July 14, 2006. Eight trekking guides were also honoured.
Speaking at the gathering, Ministrer Mr. Gyawali said that all the tourism potentialities of Nepal have remained untapped. On the occasion, tourism expert Mr. Sakya showed concern over the decreasing price rates for trekking. Those speaking at the function were Mr. Narendra B.C., President of Trekking Agents Association of Nepal (TAAN), Mr. Basant Raj Mishra, President of Nepal Association of Tour Operators (NATO), Mr. Vishnu Gyawali, President of TURGAN, Mr. Vibhor Lal Shrestha, managing director of Souvenir Nepal. |
