KOL Report POKHARA, Oct 14 - Despite the ongoing conflict, envoys Friday unequivocally reiterated that Nepal was still a safe destination for tourists. The envoys of the United Kingdom, Germany, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Russia and South Korea made the remark while inaugurating the four-day-long International Annapurna Food Festival that kicked off in Pokhara today. "Although some countries have issued travel advisory for Nepal, we have never issued any such statements," UK Ambassador Keith Bloomfield said. Stating that the arrivals of tourists have increased after the announcement of a three-month-long unilateral ceasefire by the Maoists, Bloomfield added, "The government should grab this opportunity to take advantage of it." Tourist arrivals increased by 46.5 percent in the month of September this year as compared to the corresponding month last year following the Maoist announced ceasefire. The number of Indian tourists surged by 151.1 percent and the tourist arrivals from third countries saw a significant rise by 23.19 percent. Envoys of Germany and South Korea who reached Pokhara after completing the trek in the Annapurna region were all in praise for Nepal's natural beauty. "I met many German tourists on the trail and their number is increasing," German Envoy Frank Rein said adding, "I found Nepal safe and wonderful destination for travelers." Recollecting his experiences, South Korean Ambassador Park Sun Hoon said, "I have never seen a paradise like this in any country." Malaysian, Russian and Bangaldeshi Ambassadors said that they were influenced by the beauty of Nepal. (dds) |
